John Muinjo, the president of
Namibia Football Association (NFA), has announced the resignation of head
coach, Roger Palmgren.
According to Muinjo, the coach
who has been in charge for just six weeks, decided to step aside with immediate
effect last weekend, due to ‘serious death threats’ targeted at him and his
family.
Palmgren did not return to
Namibia with the rest of the squad after their game against Malawi, but flew to
South Africa on Friday.
The shock decision comes just two
days before the Brave Warriors face the Super Eagles of Nigeria, in a FIFA 2014
World Cup qualifying game. The NFA has however called on Namibians to get
behind the team.
“The NFA according to a press
release has called upon the nation to continue rallying behind the Brave
Warriors in our quest for qualification to Brazil 2014,”.
Ricardo Mannetti and Ronnie
Kanalelo will be in charge of the team’s match against Nigeria on Wednesday.
